Samuel's Wonderful Sad Faces

OK, so, everyday at school Samuel's teacher gives the children a happy face or a sad face in their folder. If they get happy's all week, they can go to the 'treasure chest' on Friday. Well, we all know Samuel just doesn't have it in him. We have been to the treasure chest 1 time, and that was only becuase he only went to school 3 days that week. AND, one of those days he got a 'straight line' face!!
So, yesterday, his teacher met me in the hallway when I went to pick him up and she is laughing. She tells me that he got a sad face today. She said he was cutting up at the lunch table and had to be moved to a table by himself. No suprise. She says they went to the bathroom after lunch and the conversation in the hallway went something like this...
braxton - "Mrs. Peavy, and I working on a happy or a sad face today?"
Mrs. Peavy - "Braxton, I think you are doing pretty good - you're working on a happy face."
Samuel - "Me too."
Mrs. Peavy - "I don't think so, Samuel. You weren't very good at lunch."
Samuel - "Mrs. Peavy - look. (very dramatic with his hands). I know that Mrs. Stinson told me sit down at the lunch table today, and I tried. But, my brain just wouldn't let me. Sometimes, even when I know I should, my brain just won't let me do what I'm told."

She says later, they were walking down the hallway, and Samuel just fell out in the floor. She stopped and asked him what he was doing. He said - "I was walking down this hallway, being good. And my dog and my cat came and just knocked me down. It's ok now, though, they are gone back outside."

This dog & cat are imaginary - and we take them everywhere - apparently even to school now. Now do you understand why life is so entertaining and exhausting at our house??

Wonderful Beach

OK, so vacationing at the beach is not what it used to be - but it was still wonderful. My wonderful husband even skipped some meeting one day, and napped with the boys so I could go down to the beach. It was WONDERFUL to lay out a while and just REST. Thanks, J. So, we're back home and I am finally uploading some pics - hope you are all well - we love you all.

beach day 1

OK - I am loving our quick vacation. Not quite the way I used to love the beach, though. As I look out on the balcony overlooking the huge pools and sandy beach, I am slightly jealous of all the gals out there sunning and reading a book. OH, I miss those days. Jeremy is in meetings all day, and I am not brave enough to take my never-been-exposed to the sun, and sand eating 8 month old along with my ever-wandering not listening to anything you say 4 year old down to the beach or the pool alone. So we wait. Isaac is napping, and Samuel is watching his movies, and we are just chilling. It's fabulous to be away. We went to breakfast this morning and then shoe-shopping for Samuel. I miss tanning, and Lord knows my white legs could use some rays - but this is wonderful, too - and I wouldn't trade it for anything. We did get to go to the pool and beach for a while last night - and will try again tonight! I'd upload pics, but I seem to have left that cord at home - later.

BLOG

So, I've been thinking. I check my friend's blogs off and on and am always dissapointed when they haven't updated. I feel like it is my privaledge as a blog-reader to know everything that is going on in their worlds. Then, I realized, I don't update. How distressing. I am committing to do better. Random thoughts, actual happenings, pics, whatever, I WILL BLOG. So here goes,

Today - not such a big deal. Work. A little grumpy because I haven't slept much thanks to 2 11-7 shifts at the hurricane shelters. I actually enjoyed them - a little time with co-workers - dominoes, cards, not too shabby. The eight hours of work following it wasn't even as bad as I expected. Now, however, I am paying.

I've way over-committed myself (as always). Everyone is always saying - you have to stop, tell them no. But, they are also the same people who don't want to hear no when it's their turn. So, I'm working on church music, but missing practice. Singing for the Archbishop of Canterbury at the Episcopal evensong service for the 150 anniversary at St. Thomas - but haven't been to rehearsals - it's only next SUNDAY. working, missing, my boys, planning a trip away, desperately trying to find just the right protrait and size and space for Samuel's beautiful shots. Hating that some people are committed to not liking me no matter how hard I try - & laughing at the fact that they think complaining to my husband makes a difference in his love for me - all the while only changing his lifetime worth of opinions of them.

I want to re-model, and move - both at the same time, and don't know which I want more, so I just turned it over to God. I want to live in His will, but I'm not sure if my way of thinking is doing that, or avoiding making my own decision. It's sad.

My boys amaze me. Samuel is soaking up so much at school - such a smart boy, with a wild active imagination. He is so head-strong - I love that about it, even when it makes raising him so difficult. James Isaac is so LAID BACK. He laughs at everything - especially Samuel. He doesn't really want to crawl - but it's coming. He has the most beautiful eyes - and is such a cuddle-bug. They both make my 'cup' run over. And when I realize that, my heart breaks for my Meredith. Each night, Jeremy and I go into their rooms and pray over them as they sleep, and I can't pray for my own children, without praying for hers. God has something so huge planned for her, I just know that. I can't wait to see what her future holds. ( I love you, MEME).

AHHH--OK, I really have work to do, so here goes, doing it. I'll come back to this later....
